KEDC Attends Alaska Infrastructure Development Symposium

Alaska Infrastructure Development Symposium

Alaska Municipal League (AML), Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN), and the Office of the Governor, along with other statewide partners, hosted the second annual Infrastructure Development Symposium in Anchorage. Kodiak Economic Development Corporation Executive Director John Whiddon and Associate Director Melissa Schoenwether attended the event which ran September 25-27, 2023. The symposium was structured to prepare Alaskans to take advantage of the significant opportunities provided for in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and other sources of federal infrastructure funding.

“By attending this event, KEDC was able to celebrate the progress Kodiak has had in a variety of areas, and at the same time find inspiration, as well as tangible resources, to put to use for solutions to challenges we find our island has. Connecting with other community members from all over our state provided opportunities to hear what has worked and how, as well as what has not and why. The Symposium allowed me time to discuss workforce development strategies that could benefit KEDC’s future projects. It exposed me to a variety of thoughtful approaches to project pre-development, and even grant writing lessons on best practices.”—Melissa Schoenwether
