City of Kodiak and KANA partner with KEDC for Storefront Improvement Program

Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC), in partnership with the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA), and the City of Kodiak, has developed the Storefront Improvement Program (SIP) to help continue to revitalize Kodiak’sDowntown by creating a matching grant program for Downtown businesses.

Enthusiasm for the Kodiak Marketplace permeates throughout our town. Collaboratively, KEDC, KANA, and the City of Kodiak will help expand this major effort to revitalize our downtown. The SIP will offer matching grants to help businesses to upgrade their signage, replace windows, paint their entrances, and create more enticing, welcoming storefront appearances.

The Storefront Improvement Program is modeled after the very successful City of Soldotna program and similar programs nationwide. The SIP is intended to assist businesses in our downtown core area with improving their storefront appearance by offering a matching grant up to $7,500.

The program goals are to:

  • Promote revitalization of our “Downtown Area” to attract both visitors and residents;

  • Encourage new development and increase foot traffic in our Downtown;

  • Ensure a healthy economy by supporting diverse local businesses;

  • Improve storefront exteriors to create a more welcoming, customer-friendly appearance, increasing public safety and access, in the Downtown core area adjacent to St. Paul Harbor.

On behalf of KANA and the City of Kodiak, KEDC will announce this project beginning 13 October, 2023, and invite the businesses included in the eligible downtown area to apply. The applications will be reviewed and awardees determined and notified mid- December. For more information, or to apply, HEAD HERE.
